What is the Entergy New Orleans Green Select program?

Entergy New Orleans’ Green Select program offers residential and business customers in New Orleans the power to match their electricity usage with clean, renewable energy generated from solar resources in Louisiana. Entergy New Orleans’ Green Select is a voluntary, Green-e® Energy certified program that allows eligible Entergy New Orleans customers to align a portion of their monthly electric usage with renewable energy credits (“RECs”).  The rate tariff associated with Green Select can be accessed here.

What is Green-e® Energy certification?

Green Select is Green-e® Energy certified and meets the environmental and consumer-protection standards set forth by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions. Learn more at www.green-e.org

How do I sign up or receive more information?

Eligible customers who are interested in the Green Select program should enroll here. For further information on the Green Select program, you may email GreenSelectNOLA@entergy.com.

What are renewable energy credits?

A REC, or renewable energy credit, is used in tracking renewable energy from its source all the way to someone who purchases green power. It represents the environmental impact of 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity generated from renewable energy.

Where will the RECs come from?

The program will initially be supplied by RECs from solar projects in south Louisiana, such as the 20 MW New Orleans Solar Station located in New Orleans East. See here.

Where can I find the previously retired Renewable Energy Certificates (RECS)?

Will I own the renewable resource?

No. The solar projects in Louisiana or other sources of RECs for this program will be owned by ENO or other parties from whom ENO purchases renewable energy through Power Purchase Agreements.

Will I own the RECs associated with my subscription?

No, but you have the right to claim the environmental benefit of the RECs. For businesses, the RECs can help reduce your company’s scope 2 emissions. RECs associated with participants’ electric usage will be retired by Entergy New Orleans so they cannot be counted more than once.

Who is eligible to participate in the Entergy New Orleans Green Select program?

To be eligible, a customer must take metered service and have an account in good standing with Entergy New Orleans. This program is not offered to unmetered or lighting service.

What are the program charges?

Eligible customers can choose from three options, or tiers, to enroll. Tier One will match 25% of your monthly electricity usage with RECs at an incremental rate of 1.5 cents per kWh. Tier Two will match 50% of your monthly electricity usage with RECs at an incremental rate of 1.25 cents per kWh. Tier Three will match 100% of your monthly electricity usage with RECs at an incremental rate of 1 cent per kWh.

Can I change which tier I am enrolled in after I sign up?

Yes. However, customers cannot change their election more than one time in a six-month period.

How will I be billed?

Each month, the charges for your subscription to the Green Select program will be included in your monthly bill from Entergy New Orleans.

Is it possible for the cost of my Entergy New Orleans bill to decrease because of my participation?

No. Participation in this program will include a small, additional fee to your monthly utility bill.

Who gets to claim the environmental benefits associated with the renewable sources of this program?

As an Entergy New Orleans Green Select participant, you claim the full environmental benefits for your subscription to the program through the RECs retired on your behalf.

Is the renewable energy I support through the Entergy New Orleans Green Select program delivered directly to my home or business?

No. The energy produced is not sent directly to your home or business.

What is the minimum participation period?

Enrollment is on a month-to-month basis, although it will not be pro-rated.

What happens if my company ceases operation and/or I close my Entergy New Orleans account?

You will be removed from the program.

What happens if I move to another location and open a new Entergy New Orleans account?
